Unemployment insurance

You are not automatically insured against unemployment in Denmark as unemployment insurance is voluntary. To be insured against unemployment, you must join an unemployment fund to which contributions must be paid. To be eligible for unemployment benefits and assistance from an unemployment fund, certain conditions apply.

Recognition of qualifications

In order to get a job in Denmark, you may need to get your qualifications assessed or authorised. Certain professions are regulated by law and you will need an authorisation or a similar recognition from the competent Danish public authority in order to practice or work. As it can be difficult to understand or appreciate an education from another country, it will help potential employers understand how your education corresponds to the Danish educational system if you obtain an official assessment from a Danish authority.
